Due to a combination of several unforeseen factors, we have decided to
cancel the Watauga Lake Triathlon for 2019
We would like to thank all of our participants, volunteers and sponsors over the past years
for all of your wonderful support!
Scott Vandiver and Travis Triplett, Race Co-Directors
The Watauga Lake Triathlon was inspired by the picturesque countryside and pristine waters of Watauga Lake. Watauga literally means "beautiful water" and it certainly holds true to its given name. Watauga holds the distinction of being the highest reservoir (more than 1900 feet above sea level) in the Tennessee river system. Surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest and flanked by the Appalachian Mountains, Watauga Reservoir is arguably the most scenic in the Tennessee River Watershed.
It is a sanctioned USAT triathlon, 1000m Swim, 35K Bike, 8K run.
