The Watermelon Classic has existed since 1983. It is a great July 4th family tradition. A slightly hilly course in some areas but great for all running abilities. There are water stations along the route, lots of watermelon, beverages and fruit at end of race, in addition to music. The course begins and ends at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. Over 184 awards will be given.
The race is certified. Certification number is MS13008MS
A One Mile Wellness Run for ALL ages and a Tot Trot for ages 3 & Under (Free) follow the 5K.

Strollers allowed but must be in the back of the pack. No pets or roller blades.
There is NO RACE DAY registration. We encourage race packets be picked up prior to the race. Packets may be picked up beginning June 29 at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
There is a team division. Teams need to register by July 2.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three overall Runners, Masters, Grand Masters and Senior Masters.
Race Route: Lakeland-I55 frontage - Eastover Drive - Ridgewood Rd.- Lakeland Drive - Finish line in parking lot of MSHOF.
There is a prize for best costume, voted on by participants. You must complete the race in costume. The Tot Trot for ages 3 & under requires no registration.
Family (immediate family, max 5) and team registrations (max 5), cannot register online. Team registrations must be in by July 2..
