The Forrest Memorial Road Race benefits the Special Olympic teams and recreational programs of Thrive Support & Advocacy, Inc. -formerly known as Greater Marlboro Programs Inc. This 3.2 mile run/walk is a great family event on what is usually a beautiful morning in September. The race starts at the Wayside Swim and Racquet Club and then loops through gently rolling terrain and concludes back at the Wayside Swim and Racquet Club with a barbeque and party for all participants. Proceeds from the race benefit Thrive Support & Advocacy, Inc. Thrive is a local non-profit organization whose mission it is “To promote the personal growth, dignity and acceptance of people with developmental disabilities in the Metro-West area.”
This Race is has been held for over thirty years in Memory of Jim Forrest, whom was very active in Marlborough recreation and politics. Jim was a City Councilor for over twenty years, a founding member of the Marlborough Boys & Girls Club and on the Board of Directors of the Marlborough Recreation Department. Jim did all this while also raising nine children. Several of the Thrive’s Recreation and Special Olympic programs are funded entirely from donations and would have to be discontinued if the generosity of the community did not fill the need each year.
